If I'm just being honest, I'm almost always dreaming of black. No matter how far I stray from it, it always comes back to me. I love wearing colours now, but for a long time black was my go to for just about anything. It still very much is today in a lot of aspects, too. Everything looks better in black.

Eating Clean in 2015


One of my goals for 2015 was eating clean. It was near the bottom of the list, but, it has been the biggest one in my head for a few weeks now. After lots of internet research and nights perusing Pinterest for detox recipes, I decided to just come up with my own guide for eating clean. Then, I stumbled upon a new book from Martha Stewart's team of writers called Clean State. If you are hoping to detox your system, change your eating habits, or simply just looking for some good, clean, recipes, then this book is for you. It helped me organize my goals for getting healthy. Not necessarily losing weight, but just eating and feeling good. I'm tired of feeling tired, groggy and sore all the time. And what better time than 2015 to do something about it? My goals are simple, as well as obtainable, and you can do it too!

Detox Water
It's a well known tip that if you drink warm water with lemon every morning it helps boost your digestive system, so I've been doing that as well as drinking 40-60 oz of infused water a day. I've been switching it up from lemon/orange water and lime/cucumber/mint. If you have any good detox water recipes I'd love to hear them!

Breakfast Smoothies
I've always been one of those people who skip breakfast every morning, and then eat a carb and starch filled lunch to fill myself up. No more of that! I have been having a smoothie every morning for breakfast, switching it up from a good detox smoothie to one that is full of antioxidants. 

Light Lunches
I've been keeping my lunches to fruit, veggies and maybe an egg every once in awhile. I have started eating more eggs since cutting out a lot of my meat intake, for protein. I usually stick to a salad, or a few pieces of fruit.


Portion Dinner Better
There's a tip in Clean Slate that says if you use a smaller plate for dinner, you trick your mind into eating less. The portions are the same but they look a lot bigger on a smaller plate. It's actually been working pretty well, and I don't feel hungry after I eat. I'm still eating dinners that are high in fat and carbs but that's a step that is proving to be a little bit harder than anything else. 

No Red Meat
Now, no where in any clean eating book does it say to completely cut out red meat, just eat it rarely, in small portions. But, I have vowed to cut it out of my diet entirely. Which means no more bacon. Womp womp.

Limited Dairy
Not that I ever had that much dairy to begin with, but now I stick to just a little 2% milk a day and if I need to, one slice of cheese. Other than that, the only dairy I eat is non fat yogurt. My digestive system already thanks me.

Try New Things
I'm the first to admit, I do not like trying new things. However, if I'm going to cut out all the bad things from my diet, I need to try new good things. Or eating things I'm not a huge fan of, even though I know they are good for me, such as avocados and kale.

Exercise Daily
I already walk everywhere, so this is not a hard goal to obtain in the non winter months. For now I've been stretching and keeping busy around the house. Eventually I will have a 30 min exercise plan for every morning. If you have any good tips for quick work outs, comment below.

Remove All Junk Food
This has been, and still remains, the hardest thing to do. But, surprisingly, I have been doing a good job! We went through all the cupboards and the fridge and threw out everything, to start out fresh with a new grocery list. Now our pantry and fridge is full of fruits, veggies, legumes and whole grains. I still cave the odd time, but the worst I've done was a home made strawberry milkshake, or peanut butter on flax seed toast. I'd say that's better than a liter of Coke and a bag of Doritos! I have successfully avoided convenient stores, fast food, sugars and caffeine for one week. Here's hoping I can kick the habit once and for all!

Ultimately, my prime goal is to take my diet of 80% meat and junk food, 15% fruit/veggies, 5% dairy, and turn it into 80% fruits, veggies, legumes, 15% whole grains, 5% dairy and 0% junk food. And hey, if I reach my goal of losing 60lbs, then that's spectacular! But, if not, at least I'm clean and healthy. And that's all I can hope for.

Earlier this week I took a look back at all my older posts to see what features I started and didn't continue with. One of the ideas I had, that I was actually quite fond of, was a monthly colour web of all the items that inspired me that month. You can see the first one I did here. I honestly couldn't tell you why I never continued that feature, but as a goal in 2015, I hope to start over with the features on my blog and keep at them! 

This time I decided to do baby pink. For some reason I am really feeling light, pretty pink hues. Whether it be clothes, home decor,  nail polish or my blog layout, I just love it right now!

Goals for 2015


I've never been one to set crazy, unobtainable new years resolutions. Nor do I think anyone should because it mostly likely is something too big or too ambitious and sets you up for failure. Like "I'm going to lose 50lbs" or "I'm going to stop drinking Coke" are just things I know I'm not going to do and I should stop kidding myself.  I do, however, like setting little goals we can do as a family that are easy to achieve and will make us just as happy, even though they're small, short time goals.

Shoes, Glorious Shoes

I feel like I've been very absent from the blog lately, and I apologize! And this is kind of late, but, big news, I've landed a job at a very awesome cafe here in town. Our soft open is tomorrow and I couldn't be more happier anywhere else. I am so excited about everything to do this this cafe, the staff is awesome, the products are unique and I am so happy to work at a cafe again. It's really where I need to be. I'm so passionate about the art of coffee for some reason. Anyway, I do intend to work as hard as I have been on my blog, and hopefully going back into the work force won't change things around here. I have so many ideas brewing in my head for content for the blog now that I've got my creative juices flowing.

October Wishlist


O n e // This top is perfect for Autumn - I've been eyeing it up for over a year now but it's never in stock in my size. Finally. It shall be mine!
T w o // How perfect would this tote be for winter? There's nothing I hate more than carrying a clunky, fat purse around with a winter coat. This tote is styling and practical. 
T h r e e // I've died and gone to scarf heaven. What a gorgeous colour!
F o u r // I'm not big on jewelry, as you can tell by my style posts, but there's something about this feather cuff that just screams at me. Maybe it's because I associate big feathers with Dave Grohl. 
F i v e // Julep has finally come out with mascara and I was so excited I ordered both the Go Big and Length Matters mascaras in my Maven box this month. 
S i x // I'm a big fan of anything that's peacock green (or is it blue?) and this blouse would look killer with a pair of black leggings, tall black boots and an infinity scarf. Mmmm Fall fashion.
S e v e n // I've wanted this coat in a berry colour for awhile now, but I just cant resist now that it's available in black.

5 Ideas For Champagne Birthdays

This Sunday my sister Cherie turned 28, making it her champagne birthday (for those of you who may not know what that is, its when your age is the same as the date of your birthday)! We celebrated by throwing her the cutest backyard bash, filled with glitter, pink and gold. Today, I'm going to share a few ideas we used for our party, to inspire you for your next celebration:


O n e // Champagne Jello Shots! They're really easy and tasty, without worrying about how drunk you're getting off them (for some that's a plus, but not for me haha) We opted for raspberry jello instead of white grape. I didn't get any photos because we gobbled them up in a flash but this photo is c/o Erica's Sweet Tooth. We didn't use this recipe though, instead all we did was replace the cold water with champagne in the recipe on the jello box, and sprinkled sugar on top when the jello cubes were almost ready. 

T w o // Make it prom themed! We had so much fun with tulle, paper poms, construction paper, streamers and balloons. We used this arch to take prom photos. It's dorky, but oh so fun! 

T h r e e // For this time of year, you can create beautiful decor by painting gourds and pumpkins with your colour scheme and lay them about your food and other decorations. All we used was acrylic paint, glitter and modge podge.

F o u r // Pink Champagne cupcakes are effortlessly elegant and perfect for any type of party. We used a simple recipe which calls for a box of white cake. Just replace the water with champagne and tint pink with gel paste food colouring. It makes a great buttercream champagne frosting. Yum!


F i v e // Put glitter on everything. This was a tedious, but very rewarding project. It took Cherie a couple of days but she eventually put glitter on wine bottles, drinking jars, pumpkins, garland, and even our solo cups. One container of gold glitter, about a tbsp of black paint and a cup of modge podge and presto - glittery decor in a pinch!

Six // China Glaze made a set for The Giver, and I think I may have to get my hands on the entire collection.
Seven // Nothing beats a good pair of neutral toned boots.

What's In My Bag?

This is somewhat of a boring edition to What's In My Bag, but it's more of a "Mama on the go" essentials kit. I do carry different items in my purse for different places or events, but usually I try to stick with just stuff that I need for Josie, a place for my money, chewing gum, my phone and music (music is always a must), and things to keep myself moisturized. 
I've had this Element wallet for over 5 years now, I don't know what it is about it, I just refuse to part with it. It's starting to crack from opening it to much so I guess that's my hint to try and look for a new one. The donut wallet that I made earlier this year carries my nail care essentials like nail clippers, a small file, etc. And some Lemony Flutter from Lush to hydrate my cuticles (as well as any dry spot on my skin). Everything else is just your run of the mill purse junk.
I'm doing the #modsummer challenge on Instagram and Wednesday's challenge was a what's in your bag photo, with the chance to win $100 gift card for Modcloth and a Hershel Supply Co bag. Uh, count me in! I've never won anything in my life so this would be a great time for me to start! My photo was kind of plain jane in comparison to others. Some people are SO creative when it comes to photo challenges!

On The Plus Size Of Things

I definitely have struggled from time to time with my weight. I've always been slightly bigger than everybody else and it's taken me over a decade to finally be okay with that. I honestly didn't know how to dress myself until a little over a year ago. That's why I'm so excited to share that ModCloth is celebrating a very exciting milestone this week -- the one-year anniversary of officially launching plus-size clothing on their site! May Wishlist

The banana phone, watermelon shoes, lipstick and the newest China Glaze collection are all feeding my current obsession with fruit, and the dresses and sunglasses are a product of my always obsession with geometric prints. 1. Knit Sleeve Denim Jacket - I've been dying to find a denim jacket with grey sleeves for some reason, and I've finally found one that comes in my size!

3. Pick Me Up At Melrose Place by NCLA - Always on the hunt for the perfect purple lacquer.
4. Life Is Rosy by China Glaze - Recently decided I don't have nearly enough pink in my nail polish collection.
5. Rocky by Zoya - I'm running out of sky blues and I've heard wonders about this one.
6. Celestial Chateau Pillow - How awesome would this look in my bedroom? Mega awesome.

pinteresting... // hair inspiration


"Get Pinterest," They said,
"It'll be fun." They said.

Whether it be for gathering all my crazy ideas or just so people can show me funny things, I've been told countless times to get Pinterest. There's no real rhyme or reason for why I always stuck my nose up in disgust at the idea of getting on board with it, I just did. not. like. Pinterest.

Truth be told, I've had Pinterest for a while now, but all my boards are private. Mostly because I like to keep my ideas private, and secretly because most of them are ideas for my non existent wedding. Oops, you caught me! This week I decided I should start pinning things publicly for inspiration boards for the blog and today will be my first step into the world of sharing my Pinterest account.

I've been dipping my toes into the idea of dying my hair lavender or violet, a la Kelly Osbourne for some time now. Let's take a couple steps back here. If you know me at all, you know I don't take chances when it comes to my hair. My hair has been black for almost 10 years and the most daring thing I've done is cut my bangs to go straight across my forehead - real dare devil I am, huh? But, oh how I love purple hair. It's gorgeous and it reminds me of mermaids (which I secretly am one, if you were wondering). It calls to me. And lately I find myself pinning over it. So I guess I used Pinterest to gather my ideas... (I should just get used to it, right?)

I guess my main concern, besides ending up looking like a giant eggplant, is the cost and upkeep of having brightly coloured hair. Does anyone have any advice?

P.S, I've finally added Pin It buttons to my images for all you Pin heads out there.
