TUTORIAL // EASY PAPER POMS

I've had so many people ask me how I made the cute pom poms at my baby shower and for the nursery. It's probably the simplest decor project I've ever done, so I'm going to show you how in 5 easy steps! Here we go!

What you'll need:
  • Tissue paper - 1 standard pkg (6-8 sheets) for each pom pom, in however many colours you want.
  • Scissors
  • Floral wire or pipe cleaner
  • Fishing line or ribbon
  • Ruler (not mandatory)

Step One Pick the colour you want to start with and remove it from the package. To make a decent sized pom, you'll want to use the entire package. For small sizes, you can estimate how big you want it and trim the paper to the appropriate size. That is where the ruler comes in if you need it. Whatever you trim off width wise, make sure you also trim off length wise, to ensure that you're not using too much tissue for the size of pom you're trying to achieve. It will be hard to fluff out if there's too much paper.
Step Two Fold the tissue like an accordion roughly an inch until it's completely folded up, as shown above.

Step Three Cut the ends into points for a prickly looking pom or round the edges to get a floral looking pom (resembles a Dahlia or Mum when it's done!) If you're doing multiple poms it looks really pretty if you do assort them.
Step Four Cut a piece of floral wire about 10 inches in length. Fold your paper accordion and wrap the wire around the middle of the folded tissue, make a loop with the wire, then twist the wire tightly around the paper, but not enough to rip it or scrunch it. Leave a loop at the top about the size of a pea.

Step Five Cut your fishing line or ribbon to the length you desire, feed it through the wire loop and tie a knot. Now you can hang it from a hook, or simple tack it to the ceiling or wall!

These are the poms I made for Josie's room. Jesse tacked them to the wall, somehow making them look like pretty flowers blooming out of the corner of her wall. Isn't it beautiful? And so easy! I also made a bunch of these for my Baby Shower and hung them by floral wire randomly all over, so it looked like bright pretty dahlias were floating around the room.

Let me know if you tried this tutorial and show me a photo of your finished work!
