Chai Tea Latte

I, much like most people, am obsessed with Chai Lattes. I could have 3 a day, every day and not get sick of it. With that being said, you can imagine what I pay a month to delight in anything chai. Countless cartons of Tazo... not to mention what cafes charge for one milked down latte.
I've been making my own chai latte concentrate for years. If you read my blog regularly, you'll know I've worked at my fair share of cafes during my young adult life. So coming up with a home batch of chai concentrate was a cinch. Now, most recipes you'll find if you search "Homemade Chai Latte" are from scratch. Which, believe me, are totally worth your time and effort if you can nail a good recipe down. But, if you aren't the best at starting from scratch or just can't find the time, here is an uber easy way to make it that will cost you less than $10 and last you weeks (or maybe days, in my case).
Chai Tea Concentrate
♥ 1 box/24 bags Chai Tea
♥ 8 cups water
♥ 1 cup white sugar

Open all the tea bags and cut the strings off. Depending on what brand you get (I prefer Tazo Organic Chai for its flavour, but there's no need to be picky), you may find some of the bags will fall apart. This is okay, as you will be straining it afterwards anyway. Put the tea bags in a large pot with your water and heat to a boil. Stir occasionally. Reduce heat and simmer.

Add your sugar while the mixture is still hot, and stir until fully dissolved. Turn heat off and let stand for one hour. You may wish not to use a full cup of sugar, I prefer 3/4 sometimes. I'm not sure if you can use sugar substitutes but you can always give it a whirl!

Strain your tea concentrate into a jug or new pot with a fine mesh sieve. You may have to strain it more than once to get all the left over spices out of your liquid. Although, it is fine to have some left over. Store in refrigerator. Serves up to 16.

To Make Chai Latte

Combine equal parts milk and chai concentrate together, usually 1/2 cup each. Heat over the stove, steam if you have the correct tool, or my personal favourite, pour over ice. Enjoy!

  2. Yummy! I must try, but I'll probably use Agave Nectar instead of sugar, because sugar is a no-no for my health. I love chai tea lattes as well, and I'm dying to do this...ASAP. Yay!

    1. I'm pretty sure any sugar substitute will be okay, as long as it dissolves! Good luck and let me know how it goes!

  3. Sounds good! I have never had chai tea before actually, but this looks easy enough and would be yummy I'm sure! I like milk tea, so I'm assuming it is similar? Thanks for sharing :)
