When you get older, it's something you can't avoid, you're going to inherit some of your parents worst traits. Mine, for example, is my Mom's horribly cracked, hard and sore feet. Her soles look like the grand canyon and mine are started to show signs of going down the same path. I don't often take care of my feet as much as I should, but, they do get a good soak in the tub every now and then. I always purchased scrubs for my foot from my favourite place ever, Lush Cosmetics, and for whatever reason, never thought about how easy it would be to just make my own. Now, don't get me wrong, Lush is a fantastic company with amazing, clean products, but, it can get pretty expensive. Especially if you're me.
Now, it's no secret that peppermint does all kinds of wonders for your body. It improves digestion, respiratory difficulties, headaches and your energy. My personal favourite benefit of peppermint oil is that it soothes muscle aches and pains because it has anti inflammatory components. It stimulates circulation in the skin and leaves a warm soothing feeling, as well as leaving a pleasant aroma around you, clearing your mind and raising your energy levels!
Not to mention all the benefits you reap by adding lemon to the mix: anti infection, anti fungal, stimulation, detoxifying, and its ability to brighten up the skin, it's no wonder lemon is popular for skin care. Lastly, the sea salt helps stimulate your skin and help rub off all the dead icky skin from the soles of your feet and the coconut oil leaves your skin feeling so, so soft. Try this pedicure foot scrub for your sad, tired feet after a long day at work. Also makes a cheap and awesome gift!
Peppermint Sea Salt Pedicure Scrub
3/4 cup sea salt
1/4 cup coconut oil
1/2 tsp peppermint essential oil
4 drops lemon essential oil
Melt coconut oil in the microwave for 30 seconds (or longer if needed). Measure out your sea salt and add to a medium sized bowl. Once coconut oil is melted, add peppermint and lemon oils and stir until combined.
Add oils to sea salt and mix generously. If you find the mixture too wet, add a little more salt until its to your preference. If mixture is too dry, add a tbsp more coconut oil.
To Use: Wash feet with warm water. Massage scrub all over your foot, paying extra attention to your heels, for as long as you like. Inhale the beautiful aroma of peppermint and lemon and enjoy all the benefits! I did this before bed and wow did I ever sleep like a champ. Keep in a sealed container thats airtight and waterproof.
Tip: Have a bunch of empty Lush containers waiting to go back for a free face mask? Use the containers for your own homemade scrubs! Lush will thank you for having such a great way to reuse their product containers and they look great when you give them as gifts!
