Getting Back Into My Groove

Over a week ago, I started a new job. I briefly talked about it in a previous post, but I didn't really talk about how important it is, not only for me to ease back into the workforce after being a stay at home mom for two years, but, because I'm back inside a coffee house. I first got into the art of coffee back when Jesse and I first got together, we lived in a different town and I ended up working at a really great cafe with loads of character. It was right in the heart of the city and I loved everything about it. Eventually we moved home and I worked a few other jobs I hated until finding another job at a coffee house downtown here. It was one of the best experiences I've had because it was my first job that I had a lot of freedom at, and learned a lot about the business.

A lot of people may think cafes are a relentless, boring job, but being a barista is like an art. It's not just making a coffee for customers and that's it. You're creating a finely crafted beverage that can really make or break someone's day. It's my job, as a barista, to provide my community with a great start to their day, or end.

My first week has been an excellent one, and I can't wait to jump head first into this job. I thought leaving Josie every day for hours would be really hard, but, so far she's taking it okay, and so am I. Baby steps. Being happy at your job is important because then you're happy at home, too. So, it's really good I found something I am passionate about! I honestly feel so at home in this new coffee house. I love my team, the atmosphere, the people, and the art of making coffee. The perfect chai latte every morning doesn't hurt, either.

So, again, I do apologize for being a little absent around here lately, but, hopefully I can find a way to balance my job, my family and my blog and do the best that I can in all areas of my life. It feels so good to be productive again and I hope that shines through on my blog as well!

  1. Amber, the new job sounds so fabulous, and I agree, being a barista is a total art form. We have several fantastic coffee shops around where we live and I'm so thankful for them! <3 Plus, you look adorable, this outfit is so darling!! xo

  2. Congrats on the new job! I have a friend who works in a coffee shop in Boston as an assitant manager and I hear about how its no joke. Im glad you love your job. I too have learned how important this is. Im sure even more so because it means you have to leave your baby while working but I think this sounds like a great new transition for you! Also your outfit is so delightfully retro.
